OAKVILLE, ONT. \u2014 Through an $150 million investment Siemens intends to establish a Global AI Manufacturing Technologies Research and Development (R&D) Centre for Battery Production at its headquarters in Oakville.<\/p>\n
With a focus on developing AI manufacturing technologies that will support electric vehicle (EV) battery production, the investment will create up to 90 jobs across the province and play an important role in facilitating improved value and innovation across Ontario\u2019s EV battery supply chain, explains a release from the Ontario government.<\/p>\n
The centre will focus on technologies that advance battery efficiency and refine production processes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe investment was announced as part of Ontario\u2019s mission to Germany, where a delegation of over 30 Ontario companies are showcasing the best of the province\u2019s industrial innovation and ingenuity at the Hannover Messe trade show,\u201d the release reads.<\/p>\n
Once operational, the centre will leverage collaborations between battery manufacturers and universities to upskill the province\u2019s auto workforce.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cExpected outcomes of the work to be conducted at the R&D centre include higher, consistent quality in battery production, increased workforce productivity and capacity, reduction of battery scrap, and improved recycling and circularity,\u201d the release adds.<\/p>\n
Ontario is providing $7.2 million in funding through the\u00a0Invest Ontario Fund<\/a> for this initiative.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
