The City of Montreal has unveiled updated plans for the Bridge-Bonaventure sector, a neighbourhood development project that will accommodate up to 13,500 new housing units. The revised plan provides an increase of more than 6,000 units compared to previous versions of the plan. Key aspects of the project are the inclusion of non-market housing, access to the riverfront, the creation of a prime location for economic and institutional activities, and community facilities.<\/p>\n
The Bridge-Bonaventure sector is the sixth district planned by the council led by Mayor Val\u00e9rie Plante. It joins Louvain-Est, Lachine-Est, Namur-Hippodrome, the Blue Line extension sector, and the Faubourgs sector, which notably includes the Molson neighbourhood. These new neighbourhood developments have the capacity to provide the city with living spaces for more than 70,000 households.<\/p>\n
Across an area of \u200b\u200b2.3 square kilometres, the plan for the Bridge-Bonaventure development incorporates 43 hectares of public green spaces, including a waterfront promenade and easy access to the St. Lawrence River and the Lachine Canal. A total of 600,000 square metres will also be dedicated to economic and institutional activities to stimulate local jobs, businesses, services and commerce, said the city.<\/p>\n
Active transportation takes the form of 12 km of bike lanes, new connections for active modes of transport, and the addition of a R\u00e9seau express m\u00e9tropolitain station.<\/p>\n
Speaking in French, the mayor stated, \u201cThe Bridge-Bonaventure master plan is a showcase of what our administration has been doing and championing for the past eight years: developing comprehensive neighbourhoods that are connected to public transit, affordable, green and prosperous.\u201d<\/p>\n
The members of the Vision Bridge-Bonaventure Consortium, which will be bringing the vision to life, issued a statement saying the plan is \u201ca significant step forward in urban development, integrating key criteria for harmonious and sustainable growth.\u201d<\/p>\n
The consortium of Broccolini, Groupe Mach, Groupe Petra, Groupe Devimco and COPRIM welcomed the increase in the number of housing units, in particular, saying, \u201cThis decision offers optimized development potential, demonstrating a thoughtful vision that responds to the current and future needs of residents, addressing the current housing crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n
The consortium says it is ready to initiate discussions with the Ville-Marie and SudOuest boroughs, with the goal of concluding development agreements as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
