BIM quality assurance is essential for designers, contractors, and owners. For over 25 years, Solibri has been dedicated to ensuring model quality within open standards. It now offers the world\u2019s leading model checker in the cloud for both Revit and OpenBIM.<\/strong><\/p>\n Errors in design data that go unnoticed until construction or handover create considerable extra expenses. Direct rework costs <\/strong>are estimated<\/strong><\/a> to be 5% of the project\u2019s budget, but indirect costs can more than double that impact. In January 2025, Solibri opened a new avenue for customers by introducing Solibri CheckPoint,<\/a> a cloud-based tool for quality-checking for native Revit models and IFC files.<\/p>\n We talked with Solibri\u2019s CEO, Ville Kyyts\u00f6nen<\/strong>, to learn more about why the company made this move, how the new product empowers customers, and what the future of BIM quality will look like.<\/p>\n Solibri Office, the company\u2019s desktop model checker, has become a household name, especially in northern Europe, where OpenBIM is popular. Solibri has improved the product significantly over time, but the customers have asked for more substantial revisions.<\/p>\n \u201cEverything we do starts with the customers,\u201d says Kyyts\u00f6nen. \u201cThey have praised Solibri as a tool, but many have said it is somewhat challenging to learn and implement, especially for less-experienced BIM users.\u201d<\/p>\n Consequently, one key R&D driver was enhancing the user experience. Additionally, customers have yearned for a cloud-based model-checker and the ability to check Revit models alongside IFC files.<\/p>\n Fulfilling critical customer requests without radically changing the product for long-term users proved challenging. Solibri solved the equation by acquiring Xinaps, a Dutch company whose Verifi3D ticked all the right boxes. This software became the basis for Solibri CheckPoint, a new cloud-based model checker<\/p>\n \u201cBIM quality checking is too often not done because it is thought of as \u2018someone else\u2019s\u2019 responsibility,\u201d Kyyts\u00f6nen explains. \u201cAlso, many see it as just clash detection done by a BIM manager. However, it is much more.\u201d<\/p>\n Solbiri CheckPoint promises to make BIM quality assurance easier than ever. Designers can use it to verify that their models comply with project and official requirements, and General Contractors can use it to check model interoperability and data quality for their processes and clients.<\/p>\n Solbiri CheckPoint seamlessly integrates with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and Procore workflows. True to its name, it introduces clear checkpoints that align with the process. Issue management, including using BCF files, is also provided, along with quantity takeoffs.<\/p>\n You can use both native Revit files and IFC in various scenarios. The solution eliminates the need for Revit users to export IFC files for checking, which can take hours for large models. However, if you\u2019re required to deliver IFC files, you can also check them.<\/p>\n Solibri CheckPoint operates in a web browser and features a modern, user-friendly interface. Kyyts\u00f6nen believes this makes model-checking accessible to all BIM users, including beginners.<\/p>\n \u201cSolibri CheckPoint covers 80% of the use cases we see in projects today. You should use Solibri Office when you have full BIM process, but CheckPoint will get you started,\u201d says Kyyts\u00f6nen.<\/p>\n A cloud-hosted application also reduces the burden on IT managers. They no longer have to manage Solibri installations on multiple PCs, and software updates happen automatically without their or users\u2019 involvement. Another benefit is data security. Solibri ISO 20071 compliant, so users can rest assured that their data is safely served and backed up by a trustworthy supplier.<\/p>\n Solibri CheckPoint <\/a>is already a full-fledged tool, but tighter integration with the company\u2019s other products and support for more CDEs are on the roadmap<\/p>\n CheckPoint marks a shift towards a cloud-oriented future, enabling model checking on any device. Eventually, all of Solibri\u2019s applications and services will be unified. For example, the desktop app will include new features, delivered directly from the cloud.<\/p>\n The growing demand for data related to material management, building permits, and LCAs will make BIM quality assurance increasingly essential, providing Solibri with greater incentives for integrated development.<\/p>\n Solibri anticipates that the new product<\/a> will attract new customers, particularly in the UK and the US. Current Solibri users have also welcomed the latest addition. They expect to simultaneously utilize both the desktop and cloud versions to accommodate diverse user needs and use cases.<\/p>\n Construction projects are more complex than ever, and undetected errors can result in costly delays and rework.
