{"id":29888,"date":"2025-04-08T04:24:14","date_gmt":"2025-04-08T11:24:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/strong-as-steel-campaign-calls-on-canadians-government-to-champion-locally-made-materials\/"},"modified":"2025-04-08T04:24:14","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T11:24:14","slug":"strong-as-steel-campaign-calls-on-canadians-government-to-champion-locally-made-materials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/strong-as-steel-campaign-calls-on-canadians-government-to-champion-locally-made-materials\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Strong as Steel&#8217; campaign calls on Canadians, government to champion locally made materials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>OTTAWA \u2014 In the wake of major tariffs from U.S. President Donald Trump, Canadian steel associations and labour groups\u00a0have united for <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.steelstrong.ca\" target=\"_blank\">Strong as Steel<\/a>, a campaign that calls on Canadians and governments to support the tens of thousands of jobs in hundreds of communities who provide this material.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPersistent aggression from President Trump and his top advisers will harm our sector and could cost Canadian workers, communities and governments billions of dollars over the months ahead,\u201d said Keanin Loomis, president and CEO of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction, in a statement. \u201cThe \u2018Strong as Steel\u2019 coalition is united in our opposition and we\u2019re calling on everyday Canadians and all levels of government to get involved to protect jobs and prosperity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group is advocating for government responses that will allow Canada\u2019s steel sector to adapt and grow in the face of the trade war started by the United States. The coalition group includes the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction, Ironworkers Canada and the Canadian Steel Producers Association.<\/p>\n<p>Canadians are being asked to send letters to political leaders and the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa, sharing messages of support on social media, and thanking steel and ironworkers in their local community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCanadian workers have always stood strong in the face of adversity. As Ironworkers, we know the value of hard work, unity and resilience.
