BOWMANVILLE, ONT. \u2014 A GoFundMe campaign<\/a> has been set up for a worker who was injured at the Darlington New Nuclear Project on April 9.<\/p>\n According to a description on the webpage, the worker, who\u2019s being identified as Trevor, is a LIUNA 183 heavy civil worker who was critically injured and is \u201cin the fight of his life at Sunnybrook Hospital\u201d in Toronto.<\/p>\n While details are still scarce regarding the exact nature of his injuries, it is believed to have involved a crane load.<\/p>\n The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development told the Daily Commercial News that a requirement was issued to Aecon Group Inc.<\/p>\n \u201cAs the investigation is still ongoing, we are unable to provide further details at this time,\u201d the ministry stated.<\/p>\n The Darlington New Nuclear project is the first\u00a0Small Modular Reactor<\/a> project in Canada. The project consists of the site preparation and the eventual construction, operation, decommissioning and abandonment of up to four new nuclear reactors at the existing Darlington site, owned by Ontario Power Generation.<\/p>\n A spring project update<\/a> states site grading for unit one is complete with grading for units two to four surpassing the 50 per cent completion point.<\/p>\n \u201cInstallation of all 454 shoring piles across the reactor building, forebay and launch shafts is now complete, providing essential support for the next phases of construction,\u201d it reads. \u201cExcavation of the reactor building shaft has reached 78 metres, with work continuing on forebay and tunnel shafts. Structural steel for the fabrication building is being erected, and the pre-assembly building foundation has\u00a0been\u00a0completed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
