{"id":30095,"date":"2025-04-22T05:10:05","date_gmt":"2025-04-22T12:10:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/safety-regulator-misses-deadline-to-clear-gateway-2-backlog\/"},"modified":"2025-04-22T05:10:05","modified_gmt":"2025-04-22T12:10:05","slug":"safety-regulator-misses-deadline-to-clear-gateway-2-backlog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/safety-regulator-misses-deadline-to-clear-gateway-2-backlog\/","title":{"rendered":"Safety Regulator misses deadline to clear Gateway 2 backlog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"344\" data-end=\"550\">Latest figures reveal that over two-thirds of Gateway 2 applications transferred to the BSR last autumn remain unapproved, despite earlier assurances from officials that the logjam would be resolved by now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"552\" data-end=\"790\">The delays are beginning to impact project financing, with banks pulling back from the high-risk building sector.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"552\" data-end=\"790\">One bank told the <em data-start=\"684\" data-end=\"694\">Enquirer<\/em> it had been forced to reassess its exposure to schemes stuck in the approval process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"792\" data-end=\"1028\">\u201cWith these delays holding up projects, we\u2019ve reassessed our risks and, like other banks, are stepping away from the high-rise residential market,\u201d a spokesperson said. \u201cThere are simply easier, less risky investment options elsewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1030\" data-end=\"1336\">The backlog stems from the withdrawl of private building control firms Assent Building Control and AIS Surveyors last autumn, which resulted in 45 in-flight applications being handed to the BSR.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1030\" data-end=\"1336\">These complex schemes were blamed for creating the bottleneck in Gateway 2 approvals needed to start construction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1338\" data-end=\"1657\">In February, Philip White, HSE Director of Building Safety, told the <em data-start=\"1407\" data-end=\"1417\">Enquirer<\/em> that the backlog would be cleared by April.
