If they’re thinking it’s that sliver of a dark brick building to the left of the trees, then they’re right… but if they think it’s the ground-hugging building featured in the middle of this photo by UrbanToronto Forum contributor rdaner, well, that’s not it.

The George A. Reid Wing of OCAD University’s Fabrication Centre certainly looks like the Grange, and was designed by Reid to complement it. Mostly known as a painter, Reid was the Ontario College of Art’s first principal, and what we’d call a multi-hyphenate or Renaissance Man today for the number of skills and talents he employed in his various endeavours, including architecture.

Surrounded by ever more buildings that overlook Grange Park, among the most famous are the blue titanium-clad Frank Gehry expansion of the Art Gallery of Ontario to the left, and the cantilevered, black and white Will Alsop-designed Sharp Centre of OCAD U to the right. Now joining this assortment is the latest expansion to the AGO, the Dani Reiss Modern and Contemporary Gallery designed by Selldorf Architects, Diamond Schmitt Architects, and Two Row Architects. Currently a steel frame only a fraction of its eventual size, the 6-storey building will increase the AGO’s space by another 30% when complete.

<imgx class="image-display_default" src="https://cdn.skyrisecities.com/sites/default/files/images/articles/2025/04/58436/58436-183079.jpg" data-entity-uuid="insert-display_default-3f0591a4-9ec4-47a7-9014-0fa0aaa1349e" data-entity-type="file" alt="Looking northeast across Grange Park to an assortment of AGO and OCAD U buildings, Toronto" title="Looking northeast across Grange Park to an assortment of AGO and OCAD U buildings, image by UrbanToronto Forum contributor rdaner" onclick="photo('https://cdn.skyrisecities.com/sites/default/files/images/articles/2025/04/58436/58436-183079.jpg', true, 'Looking northeast across Grange Park to an assortment of AGO and OCAD U buildings, image by UrbanToronto Forum contributor rdaner'); return false;">Looking northeast across Grange Park to an assortment of AGO and OCAD U buildings, image by UrbanToronto Forum contributor rdaner

Want to see your work featured as Daily Photo?
