The Ontario government marked the start of construction of the new CHEO Integrated Treatment Centre with a groundbreaking this week in Ottawa. The fully accessible and state-of-the-art children\u2019s treatment centre will provide integrated and coordinated care under one roof to better serve children and youth living with complex medical, developmental and behavioural needs, connecting them to the care they need, closer to home, says the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday\u2019s groundbreaking is another step in our commitment to protecting Ontario\u2019s provincial health care by improving services for children and youth with developmental needs,\u201d said the department\u2019s minister, Michael Parsa. \u201cWe are deeply grateful for the work of CHEO, the CHEO Foundation\u2019s Board of Directors and all the community advocates, organizations and local MPPs who have helped make this new facility a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new CHEO Integrated Treatment Centre will consolidate services and programs across eight locations under one roof. Once completed, the state-of-the-art centre will better serve approximately 13,700 children and youth with special needs, along with their families, in eastern Ontario. The centre will be connected to Ottawa\u2019s CHEO hospital, allowing for more convenient and connected care for children and their families.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn 2023, CHEO Foundation launched its most ambitious undertaking ever; a $220 million fundraising campaign, now commonly known as the Kids These Days campaign. Today marks a very significant milestone in the goal to transform pediatric care and our donor community is excited to be a part of this initiative,\u201d added Steve Read president and CEO of the CHEO Foundation.<\/p>\n
Among the list of programs and services that the centre will offer are on-site rehabilitation services, including occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech-language pathology, recreation therapy and support therapies, as well as services for children and youth with neurodevelopmental disorders and coordinating care for children and youth with multiple and\/or complex special needs.<\/p>\n
EllisDon Infrastructure OCH Inc. is building the 200,000 square foot centre, which is expected to be completed in 2028.<\/p>\n
