The \u00a3205m Pitlochry to Killiecrankie job will be the fifth section to go out to tender as part of the long-running upgrade of the A9 between Perth and Inverness.<\/p>\n
Covering 6.4km of mostly single carriageway, the scheme includes a tough mix of 4km of existing highway widening and 2km of new route construction through sensitive rural terrain near protected environmental sites.<\/p>\n
Key elements include demolition and replacement of three underbridges, two new bridges over the River Tummel and Loch Faskally, extensive rock excavation, and multiple junction upgrades\u2014including turning at-grade junctions into fully grade-separated interchanges.<\/p>\n
The works also feature complex drainage systems, culverts, retaining walls and environmental mitigation measures, all while minimising disruption in a heavily constrained corridor.<\/p>\n
A competitive dialogue process is due to launch this summer, with a contract notice expected in July and a virtual industry day scheduled for June.<\/p>\n
Transport Scotland will require the winning contractor to meet strict sustainability, community benefit, and fair work criteria. The project will be delivered under a design and build contract, with payments made through a Project Bank Account.<\/p>\n
Final ministerial approval will still be needed before the procurement can progress.<\/p>\n
