Once complete, the four SMRs will produce 1,200 megawatts of electricity, enough to power the equivalent of 1.2 million homes.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">OPG\u202f<\/span><a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/news.ontario.ca\/en\/release\/1002543\/ontario-breaks-ground-on-world-leading-small-modular-reactor\" target=\"_blank\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">began site preparation<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u202ffor the first SMR in December 2022.\u202fIn July 2023, OPG began planning and licensing for three additional SMRs. OPG\u202f<\/span><a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/news.ontario.ca\/en\/statement\/1005737\/ontario-advancing-world-leading-small-modular-reactor\" target=\"_blank\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">obtained a Licence to Construct for unit one<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u202ffrom the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission in April.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In all, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">OPG has a $20.9 billion budget for the DNNP, which includes site preparation, engineering and design work to date, as well as the construction of all four small modular reactors.<\/span>\u00a0<br \/><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The province anticipates the construction, operation and maintenance of the four units will add $38.5 billion to Canada\u2019s GDP over the next 65 years.
