TORONTO \u2013 As of 12:01 a.m. this morning members of the United Association Local 46 High Rise Residential Plumbers are on strike.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to a message posted on social media, the union states despite multiple rounds of bargaining, even the latest session on May 12, no offer was presented that could be brought back to members for ratification.<\/p>\n
The union notice also states members voted 96 per cent in favour of a strike mandate previously and rejected the contractor\u2019s offer by 92 per cent.<\/p>\n
Key issues include wage increases and benefits, travel expenses and tools.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur members deserve fair wages, reasonable travel terms, and respect for their tools and trade,\u201d said Dave Griffiths, business manager of UA Local 46, in a statement. \u201cWe remain committed to reaching a fair agreement, but we cannot accept terms that undermine our members\u2019 livelihoods.\u201d<\/p>\n
Members were advised to report to their jobsites, gather their personal tools and vacate the premises.<\/p>\n
