NIAGARA FALLS, ONT. \u2014 After breaking ground in 2021, the Niagara Falls Exchange with its unique sawtooth roof design is now bustling with activity.<\/p>\n
The build has also received some accolades, taking home the grand prize for the 2024 Niagara Biennial Design Awards, which showcases a range of design solutions within the diverse built environments of the region.<\/p>\n
A project team of DTAH, Garritano Brothers Ltd, F\u00e6t Lab, WalterFedy, ENTRO, Introba\/Integral Group, ASI all assembled to help make the Exchange a reality for the City of Niagara Falls after years of planning.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The Exchange is a 10,000-square-foot indoor\/outdoor multipurpose event space that was created to foster and incubate the city\u2019s food, music, art and culture scenes. It\u2019s home to Niagara Falls Famers\u2019 Market, artist and woodworking studios, an art gallery, the Mahtay-at-the-Exchange Cafe and more. Alongside of the Niagara Falls History Museum, the hub is a cultural campus in the heart of Niagara Falls, its website reads.<\/p>\n The construct of the building incorporates cross-laminated timber and is meant to pay homage to the area\u2019s industrial heritage as well as invite the local community into the new hub.<\/p>\n The historic site was once home to the Kick\u2019s Hotel which used to service those travelling along the Portage Road. The hotel burned down in 1920 and a theatre was constructed on the site. The building was then used as a Serbian Cultural Centre and has since been torn down for a parkette and walkway connecting the farmers\u2019 market area and Main Street.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n![\"The](\"https:\/\/cc-production-uploads-bucket.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Grand-Prize-The-Exhangeweb.png\")
