The Remington Group<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0Downtown Markham<\/a> is a masterplanned community transforming a 243-acre area that is creating a new heart for Markham. One of the Greater Toronto Area\u2019s more ambitious urban developments, with residential, retail, office, and green space in a single, walkable district, Downtown Markham is designed as a city within a city, bringing infrastructure, transit, and public art together under a unified vision.<\/p>\n UrbanToronto recently spoke with Daniella Commisso, Director of Sales, and Teresa Francella, Sales and Marketing Director, both of The Remington Group\u2019s High-Rise Division, to learn more about the community and the current phase on offer. The Gallery Towers<\/a> development is now occupying and nearly sold out. As Commisso noted, \u201cDowntown Markham is being developed entirely by one singular builder, one vision.\u201d<\/p>\n Spearheaded by Remington with BDP Quadrangle<\/a> as architect\/designer, Downtown Markham is one of the largest masterplanned communities in Canada to be developed entirely by a single private entity, benefitting from coordinated guidance of its residential, commercial, and cultural fabric. With a projected 20,000 residential units at full build-out, more than 3,000 homes have already been delivered, with 2,500 more currently in the pipeline. All within a highly walkable urban grid, the masterplan also includes 2.7 million square feet of retail, 3.7 million square feet of office space, and an extensive $30 million public art program. A major central park is planned as a green corridor connecting to The Rouge River Watershed, and the community is linked into Markham District Energy, with infrastructure supporting low-carbon systems such as the Wastewater Energy Transfer project.\u00a0<\/p>\n While market conditions have had impacts across the region, Downtown Markham has remained notably resilient. The community continues to attract a strong base of end-users, including families, professionals, and long-term investors. Gallery Towers, in particular, has seen high occupancy and minimal buyer default, in a market where project delays and rescinded deals have become more common. \u201cDowntown Markham has held its own, even during these market conditions,\u201d said Francella.\u00a0<\/p>\n “This signals not only buyer confidence but also long-term commitment. Our buyer is sophisticated; they\u2019re not flippers chasing short-term gains. They\u2019re families, professionals, and investors with a long-view mindset. They value quality, location, and lifestyle, and Downtown Markham delivers on all three,” said Commisso.<\/p>\n Gallery Towers introduces two high-rise buildings of 25 and 28 storeys rising from a shared podium. The development delivers 480 suites ranging from 518 ft\u00b2 to over 1,600 ft\u00b2, including a collection of two-storey penthouses and townhomes. Ground-level piazza-style retail contributes to the community\u2019s active streetscape, while the towers offer a variety of layouts that cater to first-time buyers, growing families, and downsizers alike. “Gallery Towers is a landmark address in the heart of Downtown Markham,” noted Francella.<\/p>\n Architecturally, Gallery Towers departs from the standard glass tower formula. Brick detailing and black metal railings reference traditional materials, creating a bold contrast against the surrounding skyline. Inside, curated amenities include a rooftop playground, fitness centre, private theatre, games room, and outdoor dining lounge. Model suites and guided tours are now open to the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n The community is located a 10-minute walk from Unionville GO station and is served by multiple York Region Transit and TTC bus routes, including the Viva Purple and Purple A BRT lines along Highway 7 and Enterprise Boulevard. Cyclists benefit from bike lanes on Birchmount Road, Rouge Valley Drive West, and Verclaire Gate. The site is also steps from the new York University<\/a> Markham Campus.<\/p>\n “Downtown Markham is built with purpose,” said Commisso. “Designed to last.
