BESA said the firms had flunked its independent Competence Assessment Standard \u2013 which checks firms on business practices, finances, insurance, health and safety, and technical skills.<\/p>\n
The Association\u2019s council said it was taking \u201crobust action\u201d in the interest of the wider building services sector and clients.<\/p>\n
Chief executive David Frise said: \u201cWe do not suspend members lightly but take our wider responsibilities to the industry and its ultimate clients \u2013 building occupants \u2013 extremely seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added that the move was a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining high standards across the industry: \u201cLast week\u2019s Grenfell: Uncovered<\/em> documentary on Netflix was a timely reminder of why we must do everything we can to maintain the highest possible standards.\u201d<\/p>\n The CAS audit is aligned with the Build UK Common Assessment Standard and is carried out by a UKAS-accredited part of the BESA group.<\/p>\n It includes on-site technical checks to give clients and main contractors confidence in approved members.<\/p>\n Frise added: \u201cWe have never been afraid to suspend members who don\u2019t meet our standards. It is always a last resort as we would much rather help companies improve \u2013 but when that\u2019s not possible, we will take the ultimate sanction.\u201d<\/p>\n A list of verified and fully audited BESA members is available via the Association\u2019s online register<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n <\/p>\n
