Province is replacing a bridge in Barrie and two overpasses in Oshawa to accommodate future 10-lane expansions on pair of 400 series highways.<\/p>\n

The Ontario government is replacing the Dunlop Street bridge in Barrie and the Park Road and Cubert Street overpasses in Oshawa to accommodate the future widening of Highway 400 and Highway 401. The projects, which will make it possible to expand both highways to expand to 10 lanes, are part of the province\u2019s nearly $30 billion plan to build, expand and repair highways, roads and bridges.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Ontario continues to grow, our government is investing historic amounts to build the new roads, highways and bridges we need to keep drivers moving,\u201d said Ric Bresee, parliamentary assistant to the minister of transportation. \u201cReplacing the Dunlop Street bridge is a crucial step in widening Highway 400 near Barrie, which will reduce gridlock and save time for the more than 100,000 drivers who rely on this stretch of highway every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cReplacing Highway 401 overpasses in Oshawa is a critical step in our plan to widen the 401 so we can tackle gridlock, grow our economy in the face of unprecedented tariffs, and support the drivers and businesses who rely on this highway every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Barrie, crews will replace the existing Dunlop Street underpass at Highway 400 with modifications to accommodate a 10-lane highway and install a new, taller concrete median barrier. Work will also be done to widen Dunlop Street between the Highway 400 interchange ramps.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe replacement of Dunlop bridge will reduce gridlock, improve travel times and make it easier for residents to get around the city,\u201d said Barrie\u2019s mayor, Alex Nuttall.<\/p>\n

Dufferin Construction Company, a division of CRH Canada Group Inc., was awarded the contract to replace the Park Road and Cubert Street overpasses on Highway 401 in Oshawa. The contract also includes resurfacing the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 from east of Harmony Road to Courtice Road.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday marks a major milestone for Oshawa,\u201d said Dan Carter, mayor of Oshawa. \u201cThe replacement of the Park Road and Cubert Street overpasses is more than just infrastructure; it\u2019s a strategic investment in our city\u2019s future. As Oshawa continues to grow, this project will help support local businesses, create good-paying jobs, and strengthen our economy.\u201d<\/p>\n
