The three case studies were:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The Maersk Tower, a 15-story, 42,700-square-meter extension to the Panum complex.<\/li>\n<li>The Niels Bohr Building, a 52,000-square-meter new laboratory and academic building.<\/li>\n<li>The Danish Defence\u2019s Property Agency\u2019s construction project portfolio (FES).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Each of them used <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/geniebelt.com\/?utm_source=aec-business&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=aec\" target=\"_blank\">GenieBelt<\/a> as the shared IT platform. It was used for the progress management of a construction project portfolio, management of construction activities, and communication between the construction management team and contractors.<\/p>\n<h2>The IT Concept<\/h2>\n<p><em>The IT concept<\/em> of the research has three components: the IT solution, methods, and standards.<\/p>\n<p>The main users of the IT solution, GenieBelt, during the study were the client, the construction management team, and the contractors working at the construction sites.<\/p>\n<p>The methods are the activities that the IT solution supported and digitized:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Digital construction production planning for all executing contractors.<\/li>\n<li>Project management and coordination of on-site construction activities.<\/li>\n<li>Exchange of construction activity plans.<\/li>\n<li>Optimization of resources and construction activities.<\/li>\n<li>Collection and exchange of phase reports at activity level.<\/li>\n<li>Establishment and collection of quality assurance data and documentation at contractor\/construction activity level.<\/li>\n<li>Digital delivery of operation and maintenance documentation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The standard used in the study was the Danish <em>U106 Digital deficiency information<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive alignnone wp-image-6984 size-full lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/aec-business.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/geniebelt-10.jpg\" alt=\"-\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive alignnone wp-image-6984 size-full lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/aec-business.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/geniebelt-10.jpg\" alt=\"-\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aec-business.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/geniebelt-10.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/aec-business.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/geniebelt-10-640x427.jpg 640w, https:\/\/aec-business.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/geniebelt-10-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/aec-business.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/geniebelt-10-900x600.jpg 900w, https:\/\/aec-business.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/geniebelt-10-610x407.jpg 610w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\"><\/p>\n<p><em>The GenieBelt team overseeing the construction of \u2018The Maersk Building\u2019 in Copenhagen where GenieBelt is being used.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Conclusions<\/h2>\n<p>The qualitative and quantitative information from the case studies point out considerable cost savings, both direct and indirect. The researchers calculated that during the 6-month study period, the cost savings in the Niels Bohr Building were about DKK 22 million. That\u2019s around 1.5% of the total budget of the project. The biggest savings came from the improved coordination of construction activities and reduction of process and installation interruptions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jan Fuglsig<\/strong>, researcher at The Danish Building Research Institute, reminds that the final figure could be considerably higher.
