{"id":31644,"date":"2025-08-02T20:32:58","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T03:32:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/province-invests-more-than-26m-in-northeastern-northwestern-rec-projects\/"},"modified":"2025-08-02T20:32:58","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T03:32:58","slug":"province-invests-more-than-26m-in-northeastern-northwestern-rec-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/province-invests-more-than-26m-in-northeastern-northwestern-rec-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Province invests more than $26M in northeastern, northwestern rec projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>SUDBURY, ONT. \u2014 The Ontario government is investing more than $26 million towards various recreational projects in both the northeastern and northwestern areas of the province.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately $12.6 million will go towards construction of the new Valley East Twin Pad Multipurpose Sports Complex in the City of Greater Sudbury, along with upgrades to other sports and recreation facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The government\u2019s $10 million investment in the complex will help create a facility featuring\u00a0two NHL-sized accessible rinks, 18 changerooms, a multipurpose gymnasium, support spaces, day care, administrative offices, a heated viewing area, a caf\u00e9, concession area and a public concourse.<\/p>\n<p>Other investments in the area include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$1 million to replace the aging refrigeration system at the Espanola Arena with a CO\u2082 system.<\/li>\n<li>$614,600 for repairs to the Kashechewan Arena, including roof replacement, bathroom renovations and lighting and safety upgrades.<\/li>\n<li>$585,250 for renovations at the Municipality of Markstay-Warren\u2019s Multiplex to support expanded programming such as floor hockey, pickleball and Zumba.<\/li>\n<li>$484,100 to replace the roof at Don Shepherdson Memorial Arena in the City of Temiskaming Shores.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The province is also investing over $13.7 million for the development of a new multi-purpose complex in the Anishinabe of Wauzhushk Onigum Nation, along with upgrades to other sport and recreation facilities across northwestern Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>Over $9 million in Wauzhushk Onigum Nation will support the development of the complex and address the high demand for sport and recreation infrastructure in the region.
