With its crane now fully dismantled, The Whitfield<\/a> from Menkes Developments<\/a> and Core Development Group<\/a>, has entered the final phase of construction in Toronto\u2019s St Lawrence neighbourhood. Designed by Giannone Petricone Associates<\/a>, with Rafael + Bigauskas Architects<\/a> as Architect of Record, the 39-storey condominium stands at the northeast corner of Front Street East and Sherbourne Street. UrbanToronto’s last update<\/a> was in December, 2024; we’ll look back over some progress from the summer.<\/p>\n Viewed below looking to the northeast in late June, 2025, only the top residential floor still awaits cladding while the mechanical penthouse above is being wrapped in a blue weatherproofing in preparation for its final cladding. The tower crane remains in place.<\/p>\n This early July, 2025 close-up captures the mechanical penthouse as aluminum cladding installation progresses across the south and west elevations. The panels feature vertical seams that echo the tower\u2019s red aluminum fins below. Construction crews work on the roof and on two scissor lifts at the northwest corner, where sections of blue waterproofing remain exposed. The slewing unit remains intact, with the hook line of the derrick behind it.<\/p>\n Viewed from across the future site of Grainger to the northeast, this wide shot shows the east elevation now fully clad. The mechanical penthouse is enclosed in aluminum panels, while the derrick projects to the right. The construction hoist remains attached near the building’s northeast corner.<\/p>\n Several days later, a second, smaller derrick lowers a disassembled segment of the first derrick.\u00a0 Suspended by a series of pulley blocks and rigging gear, the red and white section is carefully guided past the tower\u2019s fully clad upper floors.<\/p>\n Seen from across the intersection of Sherbourne Street and Front Street East, the curved podium is clad in stained, brick-patterned precast panels, forming continuous horizontal bands. Along the tower\u2019s south face, three levels of balcony glass guards have been installed, with green mesh tarp draped over the five floors above as railing and finishing work continues.\u00a0<\/p>\n The balcony guards feature clear glazing framed with black handrails, alongside black metal slab edge covers. Below, scaffolding remains in place along the podium edge as finishing work continues at the tower transition.<\/p>\n The Whitfield stands at 130m and will house 484 condominium units, with full occupancy anticipated by March, 2026.<\/p>\n UrbanToronto will continue to follow progress on this development, but in the meantime, you can learn more about it from our Database file, linked below.
