Citing a booming construction sector and high demand for certified building officials in Ontario, George Brown College (GBC) has opened applications for its Building Code Skills Development Program, a free, 16-week training initiative designed to fast-track new talent into high-demand roles in the public sector.<\/p>\n
Developed in partnership with the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA) and GBC\u2019s Community Partnerships Office, the program provides learners with the technical knowledge and practical experience needed to launch a career as a municipal building official, a profession the school says is vital to keeping pace with Ontario\u2019s growth.<\/p>\n
Graduates of the program will receive a Building Officials Fundamentals Certificate from GBC and will be prepared to write the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing\u2019s BCIN exams. Those who pass are eligible to receive the OBOA\u2019s Building Code Qualified certification in Housing.<\/p>\n
The program has start dates in September and November this year, and includes four weeks focused on workplace culture, occupational communication and job readiness, followed by 12 weeks of technical training on the building code through GBC\u2019s School of Continuing Education.<\/p>\n
Participants also receive one year of ongoing career support, including job search assistance, networking and access to exclusive municipal job listings via OBOA.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis program is about more than just training, it\u2019s about real pathways to employment,\u201d said Joseph Sirianni, director of corporate training at the College\u2019s Centre for Continuing Education. \u201cWe\u2019re proud to offer training that meets the evolving needs of Ontario\u2019s building industry, while also building meaningful careers.\u201d<\/p>\n
George Brown has been the official training provider for building code courses and manuals on behalf of Ontario\u2019s Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing since 2015. The longstanding OBOA partnership opens doors for graduates, giving them exposure in the field and support beyond graduation.<\/p>\n
