Prochazka said the guidance \u201cunlocks projects to move forward,\u201d but added, \u201cwe look forward to providing input to improve the program further.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The number of U.S. public charging connectors has more than doubled since 2021, and 2025 \u201cis projected to be the strongest year yet for EV charging infrastructure expansion,\u201d\u00a0Zero Emission Transportation Association Executive Director Albert Gore said in a statement. But more charging stations are needed and initiatives like the NEVI program play an important role in the buildout,\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new interim final guidance provides important regulatory certainty for the companies and state departments of transportation that are implementing this program on the ground,\u201d Gore said.<\/p>\n
The Sierra Club was less impressed, and said the new guidance adds nothing except time to build out the nation\u2019s EV charging network.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s ironic that this guidance was sold as cutting red tape, yet all it has accomplished is more than half a year of needless delay,\u201d\u00a0Sierra Club Clean Transportation for All Director Katherine Garc\u00eda said in a statement. \u201cThe guidance only restates requirements already in law, making clear that the real purpose of the Trump administration\u2019s freeze was to try to stall electric vehicle momentum.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Trump administration \u201cis still illegally withholding billions Congress dedicated to EV charging,\u201d Garc\u00eda added. \u201cWe will continue to work towards the recovery of nationwide NEVI funding.\u201d<\/p>\n
The June preliminary injunction lifted the freeze for some states, but Sierra Club officials say NEVI funds remain frozen for three plaintiffs \u2014 the District of Columbia, Vermont, and Minnesota \u2014 along with 34 other states and Puerto Rico who were not party to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n
The Department of Transportation did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
