Professional services firm HDR has been selected to lead detailed design and contract administration for major transit project in Toronto\u2019s largest suburb.<\/p>\n

The detailed design stage and contract administration for the Lakeshore Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Mississauga, Ont., will be led by professional services company HDR, in partnership with GEI Consultants.<\/p>\n

The planned Lakeshore BRT corridor stretches roughly two kilometres along Lakeshore Road from East Avenue to Etobicoke Creek in Mississauga, an area west of Toronto with considerable planned growth. Once complete, the city says the system will be a multimodal corridor that enhances connectivity, supports sustainable growth and strengthens access to the waterfront for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders and motorists.<\/p>\n

Design plans call for a reshaped corridor featuring a widened roadway, dedicated centre-running bus lanes and accessible, weather-protected stations. New cycle tracks and sidewalks will be included on both sides of the road. Beneath the surface, utilities will be strategically engineered to support future development to enable the transformation of Mississauga\u2019s waterfront.<\/p>\n

HDR says its team begins the project with a strong understanding of the Lakeshore corridor through its previous work performing the environmental assessment and conceptual design for a BRT on the corridor, and work developing a transportation master plan for the project area.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Lakeshore corridor will experience significant growth in the coming years with several developments reshaping southeast Mississauga, including the highly anticipated Lakeview Village,\u201d said Sam Rogers, commissioner of Transportation and Works, City of Mississauga. \u201cThe city looks forward to continuing its work with HDR to move this priority project forward and help make the beautiful waterfront area more accessible for all.\u201d<\/p>\n

HDR\u2019s latest role stretches across the project\u2019s next major stage, including detailed design, tendering and procurement support, and construction administration and inspection services.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Lakeshore BRT is a key part of Mississauga\u2019s ongoing investments to improve the community\u2019s public transportation capabilities,\u201d said Cristian Huma, the project director for HDR. \u201cOur team has been involved for over 10 years within the Lakeshore corridor and it\u2019s exciting to see that our work will continue to carry this vision forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
