MARKDALE, ONT.\u2014 Chapman\u2019s, Canada\u2019s largest independent ice cream manufacturer, is planning to invest more than $200 million as it expands its operations and builds a new facility in Markdale.<\/p>\n
The upgraded 170,00-square-foot facility will enable Chapman\u2019s to increase production capacity, develop new products, meet growing domestic demand and expand into international markets while creating new jobs in the region, explains a release.<\/p>\n
It will include three new production lines coming online initially and three more planned in the years ahead.<\/p>\n
As the largest employer in Markdale,\u00a0Chapman\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0has more than 200 products made using Canadian milk and cream. It\u2019s Ontario workforce will expand to over 1,000 employees because of this announcement.<\/p>\n \u201cThis expansion comes at a critical time for Chapman\u2019s. The competition from multinationals has only increased in recent years and this project will help us to establish a stronger competitive ground,\u201d said Ashley Chapman, chief operating officer, in a statement.<\/p>\n The provincial government is investing $27 million in the project through the\u00a0Invest Ontario Fund<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
