Within this diverse landscape, the government has officially designated 144 occupations as skilled trades, covering industries such as mechanical, electrical, automotive and manufacturing, among others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your child is interested in pursuing a career in the trades, Skills Ontario has provided valuable tips to assist them in navigating this path and acquiring the necessary skills and experiences to thrive in the industry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>For Elementary School Students:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Enroll in a Skills Ontario week-long summer camp at <u><a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skillsontario.com\/camp\" data-outlook-id=\"3e581422-4b36-41b7-8146-493fd37c0b03\" target=\"_blank\">skillsontario.com\/camp<\/a><\/u>. The camps offer hands-on activities in skilled trades and technology, allowing grade seven and eight students to explore diverse career paths and develop essential workplace soft skills.<\/li>\n<li>Grade seven and eight classes can participate in an <u><a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skillsontario.com\/workshops\" data-outlook-id=\"cf5919f1-550a-4d0b-85c4-2c5fbfa5a71d\" target=\"_blank\">Elementary Career Awareness Workshop<\/a><\/u>. The workshops offer hands-on experiences in Ontario\u2019s recognized skilled trade sectors: Construction, Industrial, Motive Power and Service, as well as technology.<\/li>\n<li>Parents can discover skilled trade and technology career options through the <u><a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skillsontario.com\/app\" data-outlook-id=\"7d5103cd-6c95-42a1-8532-04a7d1af1772\" target=\"_blank\">Skills Ontario App<\/a><\/u>. The app includes an aptitude quiz to help students match their interests with suitable skilled trade careers. It also provides links to trade organizations, information on employment and scholarship opportunities.<\/li>\n<li>Ask your school to book a Skills Ontario presentation. Skills Ontario offers a free presentation to schools covering what the skilled trades are, different career sectors within the trades, what an apprenticeship is, and more.
