The deal will see over 500 tonnes of steel fabricated at the company\u2019s Scarborough plant in North Yorkshire before erection of a two-storey frame on the Suffolk coast.<\/p>\n
The amenity building will form the hub of Sizewell C\u2019s worker accommodation campus, supporting thousands of out-of-area staff during the decade-long build.<\/p>\n
William Hare brings more than 50 years of nuclear sector experience to the job, having worked extensively on Hinkley Point C since 2019.<\/p>\n
Fabrication work will start in October, with on-site installation expected before the end of 2025.<\/p>\n
Sizewell C joint managing director Nigel Cann said awarding the contract to a UK steel business was part of a pledge to ensure 70% of construction spend stays with domestic firms. \u201cThis is also great news for the North of England, where we\u2019ve already committed to investing \u00a32.5bn during the construction of our project.\u201d<\/p>\n The Scarborough facility \u2013 home to the UK\u2019s first fabrication robot \u2013 will deliver the bulk of the framework on a fast-track schedule.<\/p>\n The latest contract award follows a construction management agreement with McLaren Construction will deliver the 2,400-bed campus for site workers, hailed as setting new standards in site accommodation.<\/p>\n The scheme will see 16 residential blocks of three and four storeys built to house the incoming workforce.<\/p>\n Each building will contain single-occupancy living units, each with its own ensuite, kitchenette, wardrobe, desk and TV.<\/p>\n Every floor will house around 40 rooms accessed via a central corridor, with shared services cupboards providing hot water, power and waste distribution.
