The Ontario government reports that EllisDon has completed construction of the new Confederation GO Station in Hamilton, an addition to the commuter rail system expected to expand train service across the GO train network and generate nearly half a million more rides annually.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur government is investing in the largest transit expansion in North America to help families and workers get where they need to go, when they need to get there,\u201d said Premier Doug Ford. \u201cThe opening of Confederation GO Station will be a game changer for residents in East Hamilton and Stoney Creek, while bringing much-needed relief to Burlington and West Harbour GO.\u201d<\/p>\n
Service at the station will begin on October 27, with all existing trains to and from Niagara Falls stopping at the station. The new station features a fully accessible platform with canopies, bicycle racks, a pick-up and drop-off area, and 148 parking spots. The station is located near the Queen Elizabeth Way and Centennial Parkway North in Hamilton. It has been serving GO buses since 2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs Hamilton and Niagara continue to grow, our government is connecting families, commuters and businesses across the Greater Golden Horseshoe to transit they can rely on every day,\u201d said Prabmeet Sarkaria, the province\u2019s minister of transportation. \u201cBy opening Confederation GO Station with enhanced train service across the region, we\u2019re making transit faster and easier, driving economic growth and protecting Ontario.\u201d<\/p>\n
In April, the province completed upgrades at Hamilton\u2019s West Harbour GO Station, bringing more than 250,000 commuters in Niagara Falls and St. Catharines more convenient transit options. Including these most recent changes, GO Transit has added 64 new weekly rail trips across the network since April.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe opening of Confederation GO Station marks an important milestone \u2014 it\u2019s the first new GO station to open in four years, with more stations soon to follow,\u201d stated Michael Lindsay, president and CEO of Metrolinx, the government agency that operates GO Transit. \u201cThese investments are part of a broader transformation across the region, with major construction also underway at key future hubs like East Harbour and Woodbine GO.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe opening of the new Confederation GO Station is excellent news for our growing region,\u201d added Nadia Todorova, executive director of the Residential and Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario. \u201cThis critical piece of transit infrastructure will play a vital role in reducing gridlock, supporting economic growth and improving access to jobs and housing throughout the Greater Golden Horseshoe.\u201d<\/p>\n
