It\u2019s also one of the leading contributors to the building industry\u2019s carbon footprint. Cement production alone accounts for an estimated eight percent of global CO<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u2082<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> emissions. \u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">That\u2019s mainly what is known as embodied CO<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u2082<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> created from the intense heat required to produce cement powder, a primary ingredient for most concrete applications.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Innovative Carbon Technologies is a Canadian company that has recently introduced CarbonX360, a patented closed-loop system that locks more CO<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u2082<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> into concrete during production.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Instead of releasing volatile CO<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u2082<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0back into the atmosphere, CarbonX360 effectively traps and mineralizes CO<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u2082<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">, permanently embedding the carbon in the hardened concrete. The process eliminates fugitive off-gassing, while making the final product stronger, greener, and more profitable.<\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cOur goal was simple,\u201d says ICT president Clive Diggins. \u201cCreate a system that improves on existing technology, trapping more CO<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u2082<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0in concrete and helping the building industry meet their CO<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u2082<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0targets sooner.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">ICT is a private partnership of building contractors, home builders, concrete producers and field technicians. CarbonX360 represents over five years of research and development, in association with leading chemical manufacturers, gas providers, and concrete producers in Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">How it works<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">CarbonX360 uses a closed-loop CO<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u2082<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0carrying and delivery system that fits into standard concrete operations. Unlike open systems where gaseous CO<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u2082<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0can escape during mixing, ICT\u2019s process ensures maximum retention and mineralization.
