{"id":32738,"date":"2025-10-12T11:06:40","date_gmt":"2025-10-12T18:06:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/skills-ontario-celebrates-international-day-of-the-girl\/"},"modified":"2025-10-12T11:06:40","modified_gmt":"2025-10-12T18:06:40","slug":"skills-ontario-celebrates-international-day-of-the-girl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/skills-ontario-celebrates-international-day-of-the-girl\/","title":{"rendered":"Skills Ontario celebrates International Day of the Girl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>TORONTO \u2013 Established by the United Nations in 2012, the International Day of the Girl is commemorated on Oct. 11.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate, Skills Ontario hosted a series of online events and has expanded some initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>The week started with <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skillsontario.com\/idg\" target=\"_blank\"><em>\u201cA Sit Down With\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/a>, which is a series of videos dedicated to sitting down with passionate tradeswomen to learn about their journey in the industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Participants were introduced to a speaker from a specific skilled trade or technology career field and learned about why this person entered the field, why the viewer should consider this career, and how to be an advocate and ally for young women in the skilled trades, explains a release.<\/p>\n<p>On Oct. 9\u00a0and today (Oct. 10), the Skills Ontario Young Women\u2019s Initiatives are hosting three in-person events for International Day of the Girl in Ottawa, Sudbury and Bracebridge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Skills Ontario is also launching the <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skillsontario.com\/idg\" target=\"_blank\">Character Animation Tutorial<\/a>\u00a0and Challenge.<\/p>\n<p>According to the organization, participants can learn how to bring stories to life by learning step-by-step techniques for creating movement, adding dialogue and designing original characters through the use of Google Slides. The challenge will run throughout October with the last day to submit an animated story on Oct. 22.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to ensure that young people are given engaging opportunities to pursue skilled trades and technologies,\u201d said Ian Howcroft, CEO of Skills Ontario, in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe welcome young women to celebrate empowerment and achievement while exploring opportunities in the skilled trades and technologies.
