OTTAWA \u2014 The International Construction Arbitrators Association (ICAA) is making its official debut.<\/p>\n
It lists arbitrators who are specialists from the international construction industry, whether lawyers or other professionals, explains a release. The list is multi-national and multi-lingual.<\/p>\n
The founders believe international construction disputes need specialist international construction arbitrators, and no such list currently exists.<\/p>\n
The ICAA is modelled on the London Maritime Arbitrators Association which lists shipping specialists for maritime disputes.<\/p>\n
The ICAA arbitrators listed will be long-time specialists in construction, will have expertise in the FIDIC contracts and other international contracts and will be experienced in international arbitration.<\/p>\n
\u201cConstruction is a very specialist \ufb01eld: it needs specialist arbitrators. Our list will have 30 to 40 arbitrators listed. In our view, they represent the sort of arbitrators who should be deciding international construction disputes,\u201d founder Edward Corbett said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The list is a mix of construction judges, construction lawyers and engineers. They come from common and civil law countries, the release adds.<\/p>\n
ICAA is also building a \u201cNext Generation\u201d membership to encourage younger arbitrators.<\/p>\n
The list is available on the ICAA website at https:\/\/www.intcaa.org.\/<\/a><\/p>\n ICAA will nominate arbitrators on request.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
