Alarming research from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) paints a gloomy picture of an ageing army of QSs not being replaced fast enough by new entrants.<\/p>\n
Nearly one-third of respondents described the shortfall as critical while more than half said the shortage is reducing work capacity and output.<\/p>\n
When asked about solutions to the skills crisis surveyors pointed to:<\/p>\n

- More apprenticeships and work-based learning opportunities<\/li>\n
- Better promotion of surveying careers<\/li>\n
- Upskilling existing professionals<\/li>\n
- Stronger collaboration between academia and industry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
RICS Acting President, Nick Maclean, said: \u201cThe results speak for themselves \u2013 there is an enormous demand for surveyors. These are immense opportunities for both a new generation of surveyors and for existing professionals to upskill across the exciting landscape of technological change.<\/p>\n
\u201cClosing the skills gap is a crucial part of delivering the 1.5 million new homes target, as well as the essential infrastructure improvements that the Government has committed to in its ten-year strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
