Despite losing more than 8,000 workers from August, Canada\u2019s construction workforce stayed ahead of the 2024 figures in September.<\/p>\n

Overall employment increased by 60,000 in September, according to the latest Labour Force Survey from Statistics Canada, but the construction sector did not benefit from that slim 0.3 per cent rise. Employment in Canada\u2019s construction industry fell by 8,200, or a half per cent, compared to August.<\/p>\n

While the month-to-month figure slipped in the sector, employment remained notably higher than the same month in 2024, with some 18,900 more positions filled, a gain of 1.2 per cent. On a seasonally adjusted basis, there were 1,628,100 workers employed in the sector this past September.<\/p>\n

Canada\u2019s overall employment rate rose by 0.1 percentage points for the month, reaching 60.6 per cent, while the unemployment rate was unchanged at 7.1 per cent.<\/p>\n
