Komatsu is making a major move to support Canadian contractors, recently announcing a significant expansion of its Edmonton, Alberta, parts facility. The investment will double the size of the company’s existing warehouse and convert the depot into a full-service parts distribution centre. For contractors relying on Komatsu machinery in mining, forestry and construction applications, the upgrade promises faster service, improved parts availability and stronger support across Western Canada. The project reflects Komatsu’s wider strategy to reduce lead times, streamline logistics and bring critical components closer to the operations that need them most.

A New 135,000-square-foot distribution hub

Scheduled to open in early 2026, the expanded facility will span approximately 135,000 square feet, doubling the storage capacity of Komatsu’s current Edmonton warehouse. The added space will allow the company to stock a greater volume of high-demand and strategic parts locally, reducing the time-consuming need to pull inventory from the United States or overseas. With this upgrade, Komatsu says it will be able to offer 24-hour delivery capabilities to its dealer partners across Western Canada. For contractors working in remote or high-production environments where downtime is costly, this improved responsiveness is expected to deliver meaningful operational value.

Improving speed, efficiency and system integration

Komatsu describes the expansion as a cornerstone of its evolving North American logistics network with the Edmonton hub shifting from a regional depot to a fully integrated distribution centre tied directly to Komatsu’s global supply routes from Japan and Indonesia. The facility will also feature enhanced layouts, automation upgrades and new material-handling equipment designed to improve warehouse efficiency. In addition, the company is also implementing advanced system integration with its global planning and warehouse management platforms, ensuring faster, more accurate inventory replenishment and greater visibility across the supply chain. Alongside the physical expansion, Komatsu plans to increase staffing levels and add technical support roles to strengthen customer service.

Supporting a growing Canadian market

Company leaders emphasize that the expansion is a direct response to rising demand in Canada’s heavy-industry sectors. Mining, forestry and large-scale construction continue to experience long-term capital investment, and contractors are expecting tighter support from their equipment partners. On that note, Danny Murtagh, Vice President of Parts and Infrastructure says that increasing inventory within Canada is essential to reducing lead times and improving overall service.

“Our customers rely on Komatsu for uptime and productivity, and this investment ensures we can meet those expectations faster and more efficiently than ever.”

Commitment to Canadian contractors and dealers

The company also framed the expansion as a vote of confidence in the Canadian industry and in its dealer network with Rod Bull, CEO of Komatsu North America, adding that the goal of the expansion is to support its clients with unmatched service and timeliness.

“Canada is a core market for Komatsu,” he says. “This expansion is not just about space – it’s about service, and making sure our dealers and customers have what they need, when they need it.”

With the upgraded Edmonton distribution centre, Komatsu aims to meet rising demand while maintaining the high service levels expected by contractors working in Canada’s toughest operating environments.

[ad_2]

This article was originally posted at Source link

[ad_1] The equipment giant is transforming its Edmonton depot into a full-service, 135,000-square-foot distribution centre, cutting lead times, expanding inventory … Read more

[1085

post-33405","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-onsite-magazine","generate-columns","tablet-grid-50","mobile-grid-100","grid-parent","grid-33
["GET
