Concrete forming at Davpart<\/a>‘s The United BLDG<\/a> in Downtown Toronto has shifted to its tower floors, with the podium structure completed behind the heritage facades of the 1928 Maclean Publishing Company Building and the 1961 Maclean-Hunter Building. Designed by B+H Architects<\/a> with heritage conservation by ERA Architects<\/a>, UrbanToronto\u2019s last update on the 54-storey project at the northeast corner of University Avenue and Dundas Street West was in August, 2025<\/a>, when podium cladding installation was in its early stages.<\/p>\n Looking northeast across University Avenue in October, 2025, this image captures the United BLDG\u2019s upper podium floors rising above the nine-storey, backfilled, heritage walls. A double-height 10th floor (that includes a mezzanine) kicks off the upper podium volume, which rises to the 13th floor. At the 14th floor, a thicker transfer slab marks the podium\u2019s step-back beyond which the tower volume will rising.\u00a0<\/p>\n Looking west from an elevated vantage point in November, 2025, the first tower floor-plate and second tower floor are being formed. A white concrete boom pump is positioned between the podium crane to the left and the tower crane to the right.\u00a0Below, scaffolding fronts portions of the heritage facade. To the right, the construction hoist climbs near the northeast corner.<\/p>\n Looking southeast toward The United BLDG’s north elevation along Edward Street, curtainwall panels and bronze-coloured mullions are installed across five full levels and partially into the sixth. Top right, the podium crane hoists materials. Construction fly-forms project along the upper edges.<\/p>\n Looking east toward the University Avenue frontage during the Santa Claus Parade, we see the Maclean-Hunter Building\u2019s limestone cladding and punched-window grid. Two levels of windows are boarded with plywood, and the uppermost row is protected by translucent sheeting, all while awaiting installation. At grade, the heritage-supported retail canopy features restored green marble trim and stone cladding.\u00a0<\/p>\n From an elevated vantage point looking northeast this month, the tower has now climbed eight levels above the heritage facade and four levels above the stepped podium, with crews actively working on the 19th floor. Materials are staged along the heritage building’s roof. At the right, a red derrick has been installed on the podium slab, signalling preparations to dismantle the podium crane.\u00a0<\/p>\n Most recently, this close-up of the east elevation shows the curved curtainwall glazing reinstalled at the second floor, aligning with the contoured concrete slab edge and featuring a bronze-toned projecting mullion to the right. The base of the construction hoist is adjacent to the installed panel.
