HAMILTON, ONT.\u00a0\u2014 Through a Minister\u2019s Zoning Order (MZO) the Province of Ontario has given the go-ahead to construct up to 642\u00a0new homes at 405\u00a0James St. N. (Jamesville) near the West Harbour\u00a0GO\u00a0Station in Hamilton.<\/p>\n

According to a release, in order to address pent-up housing demand, the City of Hamilton requested Ontario issue an\u00a0MZO in January 2025. Vacant since\u00a02019, the province is helping to accelerate redevelopment of Jamesville, allowing CityHousing Hamilton, Indwell and the Jamesville Redevelopment Limited Partnership to revitalize the site with new apartment buildings and townhouses that include up to 210\u00a0affordable units.<\/p>\n

The City of Hamilton is still responsible for obtaining other approvals for the Jamesville site, including site plan and consulting with conservation authorities.<\/p>\n

From\u00a02019 to\u00a02022, the City of Hamilton undertook public engagement, including public open houses, for the vision and design of the Jamesville site, the release adds.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
