TORONTO \u2013 Surging nuclear power projects and massive transit expansions top out\u00a0<\/span>ReNew\u00a0Canada\u00a0<\/span><\/a>magazine\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>2026 Top100 Projects Report<\/span><\/a>, which highlights a\u00a0record-breaking $43-billion annual increase.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The report\u00a0reveals the total value of Canada\u2019s largest public infrastructure projects has reached\u00a0$343 billion. This\u00a0represents\u00a0the largest year-over-year jump in the report\u2019s 20-year history, a\u00a0release\u00a0notes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The main driver behind this mega-dollar increase? Nuclear energy.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nearly\u00a0$50 billion\u00a0of the total value is attributed to a pair of Ontario nuclear initiatives: the Pickering Generating Station Refurbishment and the Darlington New Nuclear Project. Along with refurbishments at Bruce Power and Darlington, nuclear projects\u00a0make up\u00a0four of the top six spots on the 2026 list.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, while these projects are significant, transit\u00a0remains\u00a0the largest sector leader\u00a0by value, with 25 projects\u00a0nationwide\u00a0totalling\u00a0$123 billion. It is followed by buildings (36 projects,\u00a0$81 billion) and energy (10 projects,\u00a0$80 billion).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some transit newcomers include Calgary\u2019s relaunched Green Line LRT, Toronto\u2019s Yonge-North Subway\u00a0Extension\u00a0and the federal government\u2019s Alto High-Speed Rail Network.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In general, 12\u00a0new projects worth\u00a0$70 billion\u00a0joined the list this year, including four energy, four\u00a0buildings\u00a0and four transit projects.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cThe 2026 report marks a historic milestone for Canadian infrastructure,\u201d said John Tenpenny, editor of\u00a0ReNew\u00a0Canada, in a statement. \u201cThe massive scale of investment in nuclear energy and the continued dominance of the transit sector demonstrate a national commitment to long-term energy security and sustainable urban mobility.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Industry leaders will gather to\u00a0celebrate at\u00a0the annual Top100 Projects Key Players and Owners Dinner on Feb.\u00a024\u00a0at The\u00a0Carlu\u00a0in Toronto.\u00a0A second\u00a0event will be held in Vancouver on May 12.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
