SAINT JOHN, N.B. \u2013 The ribbon has been cut, officially marking completion of the $247 million west side modernization project at Port Saint John.<\/p>\n
The project, funded in partnership with the Government of Canada, Province of New Brunswick and the port, \u201cmarks the end of a decades\u2019 long journey to solidify Port Saint John\u2019s position as a critical gateway for Canada\u2019s supply chain,\u201d a release notes.<\/p>\n
Completed in December 2025, the project features infrastructure investments both on land and in-harbour. The west side container terminal, operated by DP World, now includes an additional berth, a deepened and widened channel, a significantly increased laydown area, and enhanced intermodal capabilities.<\/p>\n
As a result, the port\u2019s on-dock container throughput capacity has more than quadrupled to over 800,000 TEUs, the release notes.<\/p>\n
Over the past 10 years the project has also seen more than $750 million in enhanced equipment and rail upgrades, mostly from private partners.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith additional growth projected in 2026, the container sector is expected to contribute $125.7 million to the province\u2019s GDP and create 928 jobs for New Brunswickers in the coming year,\u201d the release reads.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
