But for contractors outside of that boom, deep-rooted challenges are once again top of mind.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The share of <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.constructiondive.com\/news\/construction-job-openings-bounce-back\/809173\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>firms struggling to fill open positions<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span> climbed to its highest level in the past three years, said Ken Simonson, chief economist at AGC. Another 6% of firms reported instances of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers showing up at a jobsite or office.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Tariffs are also a thorn in contractors\u2019 sides.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Roughly 70% of contractors said <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.constructiondive.com\/news\/november-2026-PPI-construction-prices-tariffs\/809666\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>tariffs affected business<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span> in 2025, per AGC\u2019s outlook. That prompted 40% of firms to raise bid prices and about one third to accelerate materials purchases.
