The Nation, working with Renewal Development and Wesgroup Properties, has delivered 17 below-market rental homes. Initially there were 10 homes but after they were barged up to the coast additional units were created. Now they are \u201cnew\u201d homes for nation members who had been on a waitlist for rental housing.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"B.C. First Nations moves houses on a barge to create repurposed rental housing\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DSFwNzIqw4w?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"ms-outlook-mobile-reference-message skipProofing\">By reusing high-quality homes instead of building new, the project:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ms-outlook-mobile-reference-message skipProofing\" role=\"presentation\">Delivered housing 20 to 40 percent more affordably than conventional construction;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ms-outlook-mobile-reference-message skipProofing\" role=\"presentation\">Diverted about one million kilograms of material from landfill;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ms-outlook-mobile-reference-message skipProofing\" role=\"presentation\">Reduced long-term greenhouse gas emissions by 230,000 kilograms.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ms-outlook-mobile-reference-message skipProofing\" role=\"presentation\">The project was also built with a strong Indigenous workforce.
