For decades, a strip plaza and medical offices occupied the northwest corner of Dundas Street West and Burnhamthorpe Road, anchored at its southwestern edge by the former 1843 Etobicoke Township Town Hall. That low-rise commercial presence has now given way to construction, as\u00a0Amica Islington Village<\/a> rises on the site in Etobicoke\u2019s Islington\u2013City Centre West neighbourhood. Designed by\u00a0Montgomery Sisam Architects<\/a> for\u00a0Amica Senior Lifestyles<\/a> in partnership with\u00a0Trinity Development Group<\/a> and\u00a0Succession Development Corporation<\/a>, the 9-storey retirement residence will introduce 199 rental suites.<\/p>\n In February, 2024, hoarding and scaffold framing line the sidewalk as demolition gets underway at the corner of Dundas and Burnhamthorpe. The former low-rise strip plaza has been partially gutted, as seen from the three-storey volume on the right, with sections of the brick facade removed and upper-storey structural framing exposed behind tarp.<\/p>\n A December, 2024 drone view reveals the site fully excavated for the single below-grade level, with a crane at the centre. Perimeter shoring walls line the north end with tiebacks, while a dirt ramp provides construction vehicle access. At the east end near Dundas Street West and Burnhamthorpe Road, concrete walls and columns have begun to rise, their projecting vertical rebar cages anticipating the ground-floor slab above. To the left of the crane, we see formwork and rebar. Further left is the retained Town Hall building at the southwest end of the site.<\/p>\n Catching up to February, 2026, the concrete structure now rises to its full nine storeys, and is approaching topping off with forms in place for the mechanical penthouse. The building\u2019s massing shifts northwest as it steps back at the third and seventh floors, while a chamfered corner articulates the podium at the Dundas and Burnhamthorpe intersection. White weatherproofing wraps the first three levels, with vertical metal framing and pre-cladding assemblies visible along the fourth floor.
