WINDSOR, ONT.\u00a0\u2014 It was a monumental day Thursday as various dignitaries, politicians and other representatives marked the official grand opening of\u00a0NextStar Energy Inc.\u2019s<\/a>\u00a04.23 million-square-foot Windsor facility.<\/p>\n A release states it is Canada\u2019s first commercial-scale advanced battery manufacturing facility.<\/p>\n \u201cSince production began in November 2025, the company has already produced over one million battery cells and hired more than 1,300 highly skilled workers, with 1,200 more jobs expected once at full operational capacity,\u201d it reads. \u201cToday\u2019s event served to reaffirm NextStar Energy\u2019s $5 billion commitment to Ontario, while demonstrating the resilience, reliability and competitiveness of the province\u2019s investment climate.\u201d<\/p>\n Word of the project began in March 2022 when a joint venture was announced between\u00a0LG Energy Solution and Stellantis for the large-scale EV battery manufacturing facility.<\/p>\n This year, however, LG Energy Solution announced they are purchasing Stellantis\u2019 <\/a>equity stake to become the full owner of the facility.<\/p>\n Construction on the facility began in November 2022 with an Alberici-Barton Malow JV at the helm as design-builder.<\/a><\/p>\n The final structural beam was installed in December 2024 and in October 2025 battery module production began.<\/p>\n By September 2025 construction was officially complete, NextStar notes.<\/p>\n Top 10 Pre-Bid Manufacturing Projects in Canada \u2013 March 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n
