{"id":34970,"date":"2026-04-08T17:05:21","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T00:05:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/puzzle-pieces-coming-together-for-torontos-east-harbour-transit-hub\/"},"modified":"2026-04-08T17:05:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T00:05:21","slug":"puzzle-pieces-coming-together-for-torontos-east-harbour-transit-hub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/puzzle-pieces-coming-together-for-torontos-east-harbour-transit-hub\/","title":{"rendered":"Puzzle pieces coming together for Toronto\u2019s East Harbour Transit Hub"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>TORONTO \u2013 Toronto\u2019s <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/projects.constructconnect.com\/details\/4728236-private-office&amp;find_loc=ON-M4M-0A1\" target=\"_blank\">East Harbour Transit Hub<\/a> continues to take shape with major construction developments being showcased by Metrolinx recently.<\/p>\n<p>According to the agency, concrete is being poured for pile caps and grade beams, which will form the foundation of the main station building; preparations are underway to install girders that will carry new rail tracks over Broadview Avenue; and excavation is complete with backfilling underway to improve ground stability for support structures.<\/p>\n<p>Once complete the hub will feature:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Six tracks \u2013 four for GO and two for the Ontario Line<\/li>\n<li>Passenger concourses for GO and the Ontario Line<\/li>\n<li>An accessible passenger pick-up and drop-off area<\/li>\n<li>Three island platforms \u2013 two for GO and one for the Ontario Line<\/li>\n<li>Stairs and elevators to the rail platforms to enable easy connections<\/li>\n<li>Bike parking<\/li>\n<li>Connections to the future Broadview Avenue extension<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In March 2025, the Ontario government\u00a0<a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/news.ontario.ca\/en\/release\/1005684\/ontario-awards-construction-contract-for-east-harbour-transit-hub\" target=\"_blank\">awarded the contract for major construction<\/a> to a joint venture of AtkinsR\u00e9alis and Bird Construction, leading alongside Hatch Ltd.<\/p>\n<p>It is estimated the investment in expanding the GO network will generate 8,300 jobs in the first 12 years of construction and delivery, the province notes.<\/p>\n<p>The project itself is a joint initiative of the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario and the City of Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the provincial government\u2019s Transit-Oriented Communities initiative, the East Harbour site is slated to have housing units in the neighbourhood, as well as day care, parkland, retail and recreation.<\/p>\n<p>The hub is located immediately east of the Don Valley Parkway and south of Eastern Avenue.
