{"id":35325,"date":"2026-05-07T18:07:39","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T01:07:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/canadas-first-large-scale-nuclear-build-in-30-years-reaches-next-steps-at-bruce-power\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T18:07:39","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T01:07:39","slug":"canadas-first-large-scale-nuclear-build-in-30-years-reaches-next-steps-at-bruce-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/canadas-first-large-scale-nuclear-build-in-30-years-reaches-next-steps-at-bruce-power\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada\u2019s first large-scale nuclear build in 30 years reaches next steps at Bruce Power"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">TIVERTON, ONT.\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Bruce Power has\u00a0essentially been\u00a0given\u00a0the go-ahead\u00a0to embark on several critical activities, such as workforce planning, pre-construction\u00a0and site prep planning, for\u00a0a proposed\u00a04,800 megawatt (MW) nuclear generating station.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Province of\u00a0Ontario has directed the Independent Electricity System Operator\u00a0(IESO)\u00a0to enter into a cost-sharing and recovery agreement, enabling Bruce Power to move forward\u00a0with these next steps, which are expected to\u00a0cost $300 million and be completed by 2030.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The proposed generating station will provide enough power for 4.8 million homes and create\u00a018,900 jobs during construction and 6,700 once operational, a release reads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Through this agreement, IESO will share in the costs incurred by Bruce Power to continue advancing key predevelopment activities including engagement with First Nations, local communities, building trades and suppliers, which will occur alongside the work currently underway for completion of the federal Impact Assessment (IA) and receipt of a Licence to Prepare Site from the federal Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Bruce Power currently\u00a0operates\u00a0two generating stations \u2013 Bruce A and B \u2013 powering eight total reactors.\u00a0Bruce C will build on this existing infrastructure, helping to reduce development timelines and costs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In 2024, Bruce Power\u00a0commenced\u00a0the\u00a0federal\u00a0IA\u00a0process.
