{"id":35408,"date":"2026-05-13T18:20:28","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T01:20:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/niagara-region-receives-44m-for-aging-water-infrastructure\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T18:20:28","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T01:20:28","slug":"niagara-region-receives-44m-for-aging-water-infrastructure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/niagara-region-receives-44m-for-aging-water-infrastructure\/","title":{"rendered":"Niagara Region receives $44M for aging water infrastructure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>THOROLD, ONT. \u2014 The Ontario government has announced it is investing nearly $44 million\u00a0to help rehabilitate drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure in the Niagara Region.<\/p>\n<p>The following municipalities will get funding:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>City of St. Catharines<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 $3.8 million for the Martindale Pond Weir Rehabilitation project<\/li>\n<li><strong>City of Welland<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 $10.7\u00a0million\u00a0to renew the Broadway Area Sanitary, Water and Storm Infrastructure<\/li>\n<li><strong>Regional Municipality of Niagara<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 $24.5 million for\u00a0primary treatment upgrades to the Niagara Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant<\/li>\n<li><strong>Town of Fort Erie<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 $4.5 million to replace an existing watermain along Colony Road, Windmill Point Lane and Staniland Park Road<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The funding is through the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/health-and-safety-water-stream\" target=\"_blank\">Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program\u2019s Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2025,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/news.ontario.ca\/en\/release\/1005610\/ontario-investing-in-the-success-of-rural-communities\" target=\"_blank\">Ontario announced an initial investment of $175 million<\/a>\u00a0to launch the MHIP-HSWS.
