The federal and Quebec governments recently unveiled a landmark infrastructure partnership that will direct nearly $10 billion into public infrastructure projects across the province over the course of the next decade, creating one of the largest public sector construction pipelines in Quebec’s history.

Announced June 2 in Longueuil by Prime Minister Mark Carney, the agreement combines funding from the Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) and the Canada Public Transit Fund (CPTF) to accelerate the delivery of housing-enabling infrastructure, healthcare facilities, public transit systems and other community assets.

Transit, healthcare and community projects prioritized

Under thew agreement, Quebec will receive more than $2.5 billion over 10 years for housing-related infrastructure, post-secondary campuses and community centres, alongside more than $1 billion over three years to expand and modernize hospitals, emergency rooms, urgent care centres and medical schools.

The largest funding component is directed toward transit infrastructure with more than $6 billion set to be invested over 10 years to build, upgrade and modernize public transit systems across the province. The package includes support for major projects such as Quebec City’s TramCite initiative, as well as $400 million for transit electrification projects, including electric buses and charging infrastructure.

Significant opportunities for industry

For players operating within the industry, the announcement signals a sustained flow of procurement opportunities across multiple asset classes. The federal government estimates projects supported through the BCSF alone will contribute approximately $95 billion to Canada’s GDP over the next decade while supporting an average of 42,000 jobs annually.

The agreement also reflects a shift toward streamlined federal-provincial infrastructure delivery, potentially accelerating project approvals and bringing major public works to market quicker across Quebec.

[ad_2]

This article was originally posted at Source link

[ad_1] Landmark funding agreement targets transit, healthcare, housing and community infrastructure while creating a significant pipeline of public sector construction … Read more

[1085

post-35662","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-onsite-magazine","generate-columns","tablet-grid-50","mobile-grid-100","grid-parent","grid-33
["GET
