{"id":35892,"date":"2026-07-24T08:54:17","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T15:54:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/ontario-launches-comprehensive-building-code-review\/"},"modified":"2026-07-24T08:54:17","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T15:54:17","slug":"ontario-launches-comprehensive-building-code-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/ontario-launches-comprehensive-building-code-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Ontario Launches Comprehensive Building Code Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.canadiancontractor.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/queens-park-scaled-enews.jpeg\" alt=\"-\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Ontario government has created the <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pas.gov.on.ca\/Home\/Agency\/867\" target=\"_blank\">Building Code Short Term Advisory Body<\/a> charged with conducting a comprehensive review of the Ontario building code with a mandate to identify \u201cunnecessary complexity, delays and costs that can hinder construction, \u201d according to the commitee\u2019s <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ero.ontario.ca\/public\/2026-07\/Building%20Code%20Consultation%20Paper%20-%20ENG.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">consultation paper<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The committee members are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leo Grellette, chair \u2013 former chief building official for the city of Vaughan;<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Paul De Berardis, vice \u2013 president of Building Standards and Engineering at RESCON;<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Michael Seiling \u2013 chief building official for the city of Kitchener;<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Stephen Wong \u2013 chair of the Building Code Commission;<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s3\">Douglas Tarry \u2013 <\/span>a homebuilder from St. Thomas, Ont.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The consultation paper promises a section-by-section review of the code to remove duplication, conflicts and unnecessary regulation with the goal of streamlining building approvals. The committee has a one-year term.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ero.ontario.ca\/notice\/026-0744\" target=\"_blank\">A public consultation has been opened<\/a> for anyone wishing to recommend areas of the code for the committee to consider.
