The Construction Leadership Council\u2019s Smart Construction dashboard for housing has now been released. This dashboard \u2013 now in its third year \u2013 shows how the house building sector is making progress against key targets.<\/p>\n
New data shows that the house building sector is getting smarter as it continues its journey toward more, better quality, and increasingly sustainable homes.<\/p>\n
In 2020, despite the challenges of Covid 19, house builders have cut the time taken on site to build a house by nearly a quarter, while waste has been reduced by 15 per cent.<\/p>\n
The dashboard draws on data developed by RICS, BRE, Cast, NHBC, CITB, LC Journey and Mott MacDonald and Ekkist. It is intended to demonstrate the performance of the housing sector, and encourage developers, local authorities and housing associations to develop the evidence to demonstrate the power of smart construction.<\/p>\n
A key aim was that suppliers and customers could then use the information to make data driven decisions to improve productivity, sustainability and health and safety in manufacturing and construction.<\/p>\n
Three new measures have been introduced for 2020:<\/p>\n
Digital maturity of the housing sector
\nApprenticeship levels
\nCircular Economy<\/p>\n
Simon Cross, Chair of the CLC Metrics, Demonstrations and Business Case Working Group said: \u201cOur dashboard shows the significant outcome-based improvements by the housing sector in this health affected year, but there is still a long way to go, including a necessity to focus on digital maturity, designing for people\u2019s health and increasing pre-manufactured value<\/p>\n
\u201dI feel sure that combining a digital and MMC approach, whilst considering whole life performance will drive the UK housing sector to world class status.\u201d<\/p>\n
