Working around overhead power lines is a dangerous activity that requires the utmost of caution and safety. Prior to working around them it is standard practice to review a work procedure and complete a checklist. What is on this checklist and what is it used for?

An overhead power line checklist is completed prior to completing the work in order to ensure workers are inspecting key items. Sometimes workers can get so used to performing work that they forget to check minor details. A checklist forces people to inspect the smallest of items prior to completing the work so that they don’t get complacent.

In the case of an overhead Powerline checklist this one includes:

• Name, date and location of the work
• Safety procedure review
• Safety requirements and protective measures in place
