Construction at Cielo Condos is progressing steadily this spring as the podium structure begins to take shape behind the heritage walls of the Bloor Street United Church. Rising in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood, the 34-storey residential tower is designed by KPMB Architects for Collecdev-Markee Developments, with ERA Architects guiding heritage preservation.
Since UrbanToronto’s previous update in February, 2025, the second-floor slab has been completed at the west end of the site. The podium massing is becoming increasingly pronounced from Bloor Street West, where modern concrete construction is beginning to frame and complement the retained Gothic Revival stonework.
Looking southwest from the northeast corner of the Cielo Condos site in mid-March, 2025, formwork and scaffolding are in place for some of the second-floor slab above a grid of concrete columns. In the foreground, red fencing secures the edge of the below-grade levels. To the left, two red mobile heaters sit beside a blue storage bin for the colder March days, and behind the bin rise recently formed walls and columns.
Looking northwest from across Bloor and Huron streets, the heritage retention scaffold continues to support the stone facades, extending along both frontages. Along Huron Street, fencing extends northward, securing the site perimeter. To the north a red truck delivering materials is parked near active construction zones. This elevation will blend brick with curtain wall glazing, featuring a terracotta batten screen at grade.
Looking north from Bloor Street West, construction on the second floor is now visible behind the branded hoarding. Formwork panelling is on the right, while a concrete wall with lines the west elevation. At the centre, the luffing crane’s hook hoists formwork to where it’s needed.
More recently, this view looks north through an opening in the hoarding, offering a close-up of the of the future hall that will bring the old and new together. In the foreground, rebar rises from the sub-grade level. To the right are the rough-hewn masonry church walls, while on the left, a cylindrical concrete column and shoring posts support the recently poured second-floor slab along the west end of the site. Further back, newly formed concrete walls outline the interior of what will become McClure Hall, a shared community space. Scaffolding is visible at the far end beneath the decking for subsequent pours. Between the church facade and the new structure, the setback volume will form part of a recessed entrance to the central promenade.
Looking east from the sidewalk along Bloor Street, we see white tarp covering the second floor. Above, formwork is in place for the third floor slab. This portion of the podium will ultimately feature expansive curtain wall glazing to the left of the sandstone walls of the Bloor Street United Church, for contrasting modern materials alongside Gothic Revival architecture fronting Bloor Street.
Once complete, Cielo Condos will rise 130.35m and add 349 residential suites to the Annex neighbourhood.
