There aren’t too many abandoned construction sites in Toronto, but one worksite beside Mimico GO station has become the urban equivalent of a quarry pond in the countryside after losing its third developer. VanDyk Properties picked the site up in 2017 from defunct developer Stanton Renaissance, who in turn had picked it up from Terrasan, but VanDyk never got their 2019 resubmission underway before they too collapsed, owing millions to creditors. Santon Renaissance’s work pit is now ten years old, the rebar rusting and the shoring walls buckling, but in this image by UrbanToronto Forum contributor Full Metal Junkie, at least some living creatures are able to infiltrate and enjoy the site, however briefly.
