“Who are my safest drivers?” revealed as the most common prompt submitted to Geotab’s GenAI assistant.

“Who are my safest drivers?” was the most used prompt in Geotab’s Generative AI (GenAI) assistant for fleet managers over the past 12 months of tracking. The company, which specializes in connected vehicle and asset tracking solutions, recently revealed the most common prompts in its Geotab Ace platform.
Since May of 2024, the top five prompts have been:
- Who are my safest drivers?
- Which drivers have the most improved safety record?
- Which drivers speed the most?
- What were my least utilized vehicles last month?
- List all devices not communicating.
According to Geotab, the list reveals how safety is the top priority for fleet managers, and suggests that managers are not just identifying risk, but actively tracking progress, pointing to a coaching mindset over a punitive one.
A recent Geotab survey revealed that almost 70 per cent of North American drivers expressed support for new technology to help improve their overall driving performance. In May of last year, more than 100 companies signed up to be part of the company’s early adopter program to evaluate and provide feedback on the GenAI assistant, which is now used by over 1,500 companies.
“With Geotab Ace, we’re seeing practical, immediate gains in productivity and insight,” said Mike Branch, Geotab’s vice-president of data and analytics. “What’s striking is the quality of prompts. Fleet managers are asking smart, targeted questions, and they’re doing it confidently. That’s only possible because Geotab Ace is built on a trusted, structured data foundation. This is a perfect example of where AI can be put to real use. It’s not about replacing people; but rather equipping teams with better tools.”
His company says the high frequency of safety-related questions is indicative of the high level of importance that companies are putting on driver performance.
“What’s especially encouraging is how fleet managers are using GenAI to improve safety and driver wellbeing,” said Branch. “They’re asking not just who’s underperforming, but who’s improving, and that shows a real shift toward a supportive, coaching-based approach. That’s the kind of progress we want AI to support.”
In addition to safety reviews, some system users are combining logic, data conditions and formatting requirements to gain deeper insights into their fleets and operations. For example, engine hours, idle hours, fuel costs, seatbelt violations, vehicle utilization rates, and more can all provide more information that can help guide decision making.
