Half Climate Design has produced a report that is included in the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Housing Design Catalogue showing the carbon intensity of most common building materials. The report is designed to aid builders seeking to reduce the embodied carbon in their designs. Carbon intensity is a measure of the amount of carbon dioxide released in the manufacture, fabrication, installation and disposal of a product. The carbon intensity of building products will become a critical compliance metric for construction projects should code authorities go forward with their stated objective of introducing embodied carbon reporting and restrictions in future code cycles. The report states that it is for general information purposes only and does not necessarily reflect the views of CMHC or the government of Canada.
